Monster Kid Radio #026 - Larry Underwood (Dr. Gangrene) and Vincent Price, Part Two

Part Two of Monster Kid Radio's Vincent Price coverage continues with a Top Three Films list from Derek and special guest Larry Underwood (Dr. Gangrene)! SPOILER ALERT: the same movie appears on both of their lists! In addition to talking about their top three Price films, the topic of Johnny Depp came up, remakes, and a certain 1970s television show that Derek would have NEVER imagined EVER talking about on Monster Kid Radio. EVER.

Monster Kid Radio #025 - Larry Underwood (Dr. Gangrene) and Vincent Price, Part One

According to a recent Monster Kid Radio Facebook Group poll, the listeners wanted to hear Derek go over his list Top Three Vincent Price Movies list, but Derek didn't want to do it alone. Author and horror host Larry Underwood (Dr. Gangrene) returns to the show to join Derek and talk about Vincent Price's career and his interests apart from being the lovable boogeyman he's known as to all us monster kids. They also talk about the first time they were exposed to Vincent Price and Larry shares how Vincent Price has influenced him as a monster movie fan. This is Part One of the Vincent Price episode; Part Two (which features the actual Top Three Movies list) will appear in two days in Episode #026. (And don't forget our contest for the Matango Minibust by sculptor Tom Biegler!)

Monster Kid Radio #024 - Tom Biegler ate the mushrooms of Matango, Part Two

Derek continues his chat with artist and monster kid Tom Biegler about 1963's Matango (dir. Ishirō Honda). There seems to be something about these monster movies that inspires monster kids to create, and Tom has created a 24-hour sculpt inspired by Matango. You'll have to listen to this episode to learn how you can win this Matango Mini Bust! Also in this episode, Larry Underwood (aka Dr. Gangrene) swings by for a game of the Classic Five, and Derek talks about two 1950s science fiction films he's watched recently - World Without End (dr. Edward Bernds) and Riders to the Stars (dir. Richard Carlson).

Monster Kid Radio #023 - Tom Biegler and the killer fungus of Matango, Part One

Artist and monster kid Tom Biegler invited Derek to his home theater to watch a movie Derek had never seen before - 1963's Matango (dir. Ishirō Honda). Despite having a lifelong love of classic horror movies, Derek's experience with Japanese monsters has been limited up until recently. Tom is helping Derek to expand his monster movie horizons by sitting him down in front of a movie featuring one of Derek's near-phobias - mushrooms.

Monster Kid Radio #022 - Reaction to Rolling Stone's Best Monster Movies of All Time, Part Two

In Part Two of Monster Kid Radio's reaction to the Rolling Stone article "Best Monster Movies of All Time" by Alexis Murphy and Julian Ring, Derek looks harder at the list of "twenty horror classics" and considers what movies should end up on a list like this. And just how hard is it to define the word "Best" when creating these lists anyway? Also, Derek's been watching a few movies - Manfish (dir. W. Lee Wilder) and Beyond the Time Barrier (dir. Edgar G. Ulmer) - and responds to the show's first piece of email feedback.

Monster Kid Radio #021 - Reaction to Rolling Stone's Best Monster Movies of All Time list

In mid-July, Rolling Stone published on their website the article "Best Monster Movies of All Time" by Alexis Murphy and Julian Ring. At the very least, the list generated some . . . minor discussion on various message boards and forums. What movies were missed? What shouldn't have been on the list? Why exactly is Swamp Thing on there? In Part One of Monster Kid Radio's reaction to this list, Derek looks at the twenty films that made Rolling Stone's list, agreeing with some of the picks, but disagreeing with others.
