Monster Kid Radio #331 - George McGowan and The Blob (dir. Irvin Yeaworth, Russell S. Doughton Jr.) and Kris Yeaworth (Monster Bash Part Four)

Things get sticky this week on Monster Kid Radio when Collecting Classic Monsters' George McGowan joins Derek to tackle the 1958 classic The Blob (dir. Irvin Yeaworth, Russell S. Doughton Jr.). There's a lot to talk about regarding The Blob, so much so that Derek and George can't cover it themselves! So to fill in some more blob blanks, we go back to Monster Bash for a recording from the Q&A session with Kris Yeaworth, the son of the film's director. Plus, feedback and announcements regarding upcoming episodes and events!

Monster Kid Radio #330 - Frank Dello Stritto on The Return of the Vampire (Monster Bash 2017 - Part Three)

At Monster Bash, author Frank Dello Stritto took us all to ghoul school on the 1943 film The Return of the Vampire (dir. Lew Landers) and its place in Dracula-movie-dom. It was a fantastic presentation, and Frank was kind enough to spend some time with Derek between events at the Bash to make a private recording of his talk. Do you know who hadn't seen The Return of the Vampire before the Bash? Scott Morris, and he shares his thoughts on the film, as well as on the movie shown as a drive-in feature at the Bash - 1958's How to Make a Monster (dir. Herbert L. Strock).

Monster Kid Radio #328 - The Monster Club with Dr. Gangrene

It's time for a check up with the good Dr. Gangrene (aka Larry Underwood) when he joins Monster Kid Radio this week to take a look at the 1981 anthology film The Monster Club (dir. Roy Ward Baker). For years, Larry has been torturing Derek with the music from this film, but Derek really shouldn't complain. A mad scientist like Dr. Gangrene is SUPPOSED to torture people, right? Besides, how tortuous can a movie REALLY be if it features Vincent Price and John Carradine? Derek and Larry discuss the film and the music that punctuates the movie's soundtrack, as well as the latest in the world of Dr. Gangrene. We also have listener feedback, and, hey, there's a Monster Kid Radio Crash coming!

Episode #324 - Scott Morris and 1951 Down Place, plus an ANNOUNCEMENT

Scott Morris is a podcast legend*. He's been podcasting for over nine years at Disney, Indiana. He was a regular contributor to Derek's previous podcasting venture. He's contributed to numerous podcasts over the years. And from 2011 to 2016, he was one of the co-producers of 1951 Down Place, where he, Derek, and Casey Criswell examined a movie from the classic Hammer Films catalog once a month. Scott joins Derek this week to discuss what happened to 1951 Down Place, what the future holds for this podcast, and why it might have something to do with what's happening with all-things Monster Kid Radio moving forward!

Monster Kid Radio #323 - The Most Dangerous Game w/ Tim Durbin + The Mummy

Tim Durbin (Viewing the Classics and Classics on the Tube) joins Derek on Monster Kid Radio to discuss the 1932 dark adventure film The Most Dangerous Game (dir. Irving Pichel, Ernest B. Schoedsack). Derek actually didn't know if this movie would fit in the Monster Kid Radio wheelhouse, but by the time he and Tim are done talking about it, we think you'll agree it's required Monster Kid viewing! Also, we can't NOT talk about Universal's attempt to launch a new cinematic world of gods and monsters with 2017's The Mummy (dir. Alex Kurtzman). Derek and his wife saw it, and was joined by Tom Daufel for a quick discussion about the movie. Also, The Shadow Over Portland's Chris McMillan has a few things to say about the film, as does author Stephen D. Sullivan. All this, plus listener voicemails and even a contest is waiting for you in this week's epic-sized episode of Monster Kid Radio!

Monster Kid Radio Episode #322 - The B-Movie Cookbook with Nic Brown & Fiona Young-Brown, plus more chatting about Dark Universe

Familiar voices and maybe not-so-familiar voices join Derek this week on Monster Kid Radio. First, Fiona Young-Brown (https://www.fionayoungbrown.com/) and Nic Brown (http://www.bmovieman.com/) stop by to talk about their upcoming book The B-Movie Cookbook! This book is set to release soon (and you can still pre-order your copy now!), and after talking with this real-life writing power couple about it, Derek feels like he needs a snack! There's no time for snacking, though, because there's still that upcoming mummy movie to talk about. For the final time BEFORE its release, Stephen D. Sullivan (author of Dr. Cushing's Chamber of Horrors and a number of other awesome monster-kid-friendly books) talks with Derek (again!) about The Mummy (dir. Alex Kurtzman). Derek rides shotgun as Scott Morris takes him on a ride to check out the 1977 film The Car (dir. Elliot Silverstein). This casual chat was originally recorded earlier this year, and now that Monster Kid Radio has fully recovered from its recent hard drive failure, we can get this show out of the shop and into your ears.

Cort Psyops joins Derek this week on Monster Kid Radio to discuss this and more when they talk about one of the best sequels of all movie-dom - Bride of Frankenstein (dr. James Whale).

Monster Kid Radio #311 - The Slime People with Seb Godin

Seb Godin is a filmmaker who likes monster movies . . . and slime, so he's a perfect guest to join Derek this week on Monster Kid Radio to discuss the 1963's The Slime People (dir. Robert Hutton). Seb's taking that love of monsters and slime and directing the upcoming film Lycanimator, so we'll get to hear about that as well. Along the way, we learn what scared Seb as a kid and what movie truly chills him (it's probably not what you think!). After recording with Seb, Derek later discovered why The Slime People important to MSTies (thanks, Scott!). Also, we have feedback in response to last week's epic Kong-versation with Paul McComas about Kong: Skull Island (dir. Jordan Vogt-Roberts). And did you see some of the new features at the Monster Kid Radio website?

Monster Kid Radio #310 - Kong: Skull Island with Paul McComas . . . and YOU

Not even a Kong-sized head cold can stop this week's epic episode of Monster Kid Radio! Kong: Skull Island (dir. Jordan Vogt-Roberts) has stomped its way across movie screens, and the monster kids were there to see it! Tom Daufel joined Derek for an afternoon screening of the film, and after you hear his thoughts on the movie, settle in, because Paul McComas returns to MKR to break down the film in more ways than one! After all that, if you still have room in your ears, you can hear what some listeners of Monster Kid Radio thought of the film as well. This is a longer episode than normal, and it's filled with SPOILERS . . . so you've been warned!

Monster Kid Radio #309 - Greg Starrett, The Man Who Laughs, and The Laughing Man

Monster kid Greg Starrett returns to Monster Kid Radio this week to join Derek for a conversation about the 1928 film The Man Who Laughs (dir. Paul Leni). One of them has never really watched the movie before, and since Greg is one of the people behind Veidt Radio Theater and even published a zine devoted to Conrad Veidt when he was a kid, it's probably not Greg who's not seen The Man Who Laughs. Greg even dressed up as Gwynplaine when he was younger . . . multiple times.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i236/BrotherD/themanwholaughsgreg_zpsmhrtzx2w.jpgAlso, courtesy of Greg and the rest of Veidt Radio Theater, Monster Kid Radio is proud to run their audio drama production The Laughing Man. You'll get all this, plus listener feedback, in this week's episode of Monster Kid Radio!

And Happy Monster Day, everybody! Be sure to check out the latest in the Mihmiverse at http://www.sainteuphoria.com/.

Monster Kid Radio #308 - Kong: Long Live the King, The Rondos, and More!

Kong: Long Live the King (dir. Frank Dietz, Trish Geiger) is making the festival and convention rounds, and Derek was able to attend the Portland premiere at the Hollywood Theatre. What did Derek think of the documentary? Well, he liked it, but you'll get to hear just HOW MUCH he liked it this week on Monster Kid Radio. After the screening, organizer Greg Hamilton led a Q&A session with Frank Dietz and special effects artist Chris Walas. Also earlier this week, the ballot for the 15th Annual Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Films Awards was announced, and Monster Kid Radio is honored to on the ballot this year for Best Multi-Media Horror Site. A number of previous MKR guests also made the ballot this year, and you'll who about them this week. And, finally, Derek was tickled to hear a non-horror podcast tackle a monster kid "classic."

Monster Kid Radio #307 - Frankenstein 1970 with Dwight Kemper

This week, Monster Kid Radio gets futuristic . . . sort of . . . when Derek is joined by guest Dwight Kemper to discuss the film Frankenstein 1970 (dir. Howard W. Koch). Boris Karloff returns to a Frankenstein movie, but not as the monster. This time, Karloff plays the monster's creator! Listen to this episode to find out why this movie is so important to Dwight and his development as a monster kid. (And when you're done listening to this episode, be sure to check out Dwight's books!) Plus, you'll hear listener feedback and more movie trailers and radio ads than you probably care to hear (but Derek loves them and he can't help himself!).

(And you can find Derek at this weekend's Wizard World Portland, along with friends of the show Sean Hoade and Tom Daufel!)
